Transportation Demand Management (TDM)
TDM is a set of strategies that reduces traffic congestion and maximizes transportation options. Carpooling, biking, public transit, shuttles, vanpools, walking and telecommuting are all TDM options.
We provide:
- TDM education to commuters, employers and local communities
- Valuable resources and information on incentives, grants and funding for alternative modes of transportation
- Expertise to help local employers develop TDM strategies that are most appropriate for their specific workforce
TDM strategies and tools can also be utilized to address poor air quality, health issues, environmental impacts, climate change, social equity, sustainable living, and smart growth.
Transportation Options
There are more than 12 million registered vehicles in Pennsylvania which generate 47% of nitrogen oxides in the air, contributing to poor air quality. Statewide, vehicles release 21% of carbon dioxide, contributing to climate change.
We promote transportation options that help connect communities and support economic development. Our goal isto reduce the number of 'single occupancy vehicles', where people drive alone, to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality.
Options include public transit, shared rides, electric vehicles, bicycling, and walking.
Better Biking in Montco
Bike Safety
Reports confirm 657 crashes involving bicycles on Montco roads from 2010 - 2019. We provide educational materials and instruction on safe bike riding. Each year, we host bike helmet 'give-away' events and promote the need to always wear a properly-fitted helmet. At these events, we ensure that each person receives the right size helmet by measuring each individual's head. In 2021, we distributed 375 fitted helmets.
Bike Share
In 2012, we launched our Bike Share Program, a free community resource for local residents. Our bicycles and tricycles can be used for local trips, commuting, running errands, and recreation. Check out a bike at

Bike More, Drive Less
The Bike More, Drive Less project launched in August 2022. Working with our sister TMA, GVF, and project partners, we plan to add more bike lanes to local roadways.
We support the development of more greenways and trails, including the Liberty Bell Trail and the Circuit Trails.
Air Quality Tip
Approximately 20 days each year, air quality in Montco does not meet EPA health standards. Everyone can take action to reduce air pollution and improve air quality.
Maintaining your vehicle, commuting smarter, saving energy at work & home, and employers joining the Air Quality Partnership through the Partnership TMA of Montgomery County are simple steps to improve air quality.
